To commemorate 55 wonderful years together, Mary and I hired a local artist to paint our portrait. Dressed in our wedding attire and swaying on the back porch where we exchanged vows so long ago, we relived magic of that autumn eve. Their brush captured adoration in each other’s eyes, hands clasped as if nothing could ever part us. Our adult children gifted the sentimental piece, now hanging pride of place in our family room. There I sit each morning, smiling at enduring love and partnership in a glance. This living reminder of how far we’ve come and roots that continue running deep was the ideal anniversary gift to long-lasting souls still wildly in love after half a lifetime.
