For our sapphire anniversary, Carol and I wanted to do something symbolic near our home.

For our sapphire anniversary, Carol and I wanted to do something symbolic near our home. With mobility an issue, long-distance travel proved unrealistic. So together with our family, we planted a sturdy oak tree in our backyard - its long life a token for our enduring love. As friends and children gathered 'neath its branches, we exchanged simple but heartfelt renewal vows, bringing tears. With everybody's help, a plaque now rests below explaining its meaning for passersby in years to come. Each day I sit with Carol in its comforting shade fills me gratitude for 55 years of marriage, companionship and splendid memories made together - this special tree the perfect emblem.
