Josh and I had been lovingly restoring an old Queenslander home together on the outskirts of town for almost two years. One sunny Saturday, he asked me to meet him at the property to “check out the upgrades”. But when I arrived, our friends and family had decorated the garden under fairy lights while a local jazz band played favourites on the porch. Puzzled but touched by the surprise gathering, Josh took my hand and led me towards the band. My heart swelled as he dropped to one knee and pulled out a black box to reveal the prettiest vintage-inspired ring. As he poured his heart out in a speech about our life together so far and future dreams, I could barely contain my happy tears. When he asked me to marry him, I squealed “Yes!” and pulled him up for a long embrace to whistles and cheers from our loved ones. It was the perfect place for our new beginning.
