Juggling my job and caring for my six-year-old daughter Claire as a single parent isn't easy. This year, I wanted to treat myself as the mom on Mother's Day. On Sunday morning Claire and I had a lazy morning together eating pancakes in bed. I told her I had a surprise and showed her the earring box. She was so excited for me and helped me put them on. Catching a glimpse of myself in the mirror, I was struck by a feeling of pride - I'm giving Claire the best life I can as her mom, even if it's just the two of us. Those earrings were a little symbol that I deserve to feel loved and appreciated too.
