This year, most of my family was out of town, so it would just be me and Molly, my dog, for the holiday. While I usually loved celebrating with a big group, I didn't mind a quieter Christmas at home with my furry companion. In the morning, Molly seemed to sense it was Christmas and excitedly nudged me awake with her cold, wet nose. After feeding her and letting her out, I poured myself a cup of cocoa and we sat by the tree. She watched intently as I unwrapped the stocking stuffed with dog treats I had gotten just for her. Molly gobbled them up happily, then flopped down contentedly by the fire. For dinner, I made Molly's favorite — homemade meatloaf with a slice of cheese on top. As we snuggled eating our meals, carols played softly on the radio. Later that evening, we took a long walk under the moonlight and came across other neighbors out strolling with their dogs as well. Molly barked happily at them as if saying Merry Christmas. Returning home tired, I knew this quiet holiday spent just with my furry friend had been perfect.
