My daughter Sally had been hoping for this day for so long.
My daughter Sally had been hoping for this day for so long. As she walked across that stage to receive her high school diploma, I couldn't have been more proud. After the ceremony, we celebrated with her favorites - burgers and fries at her favorite diner. While we ate, I handed her the little box I'd been carrying in my pocket all day. Inside was a delicate necklace with a life tree pendant. "Dad!" she gasped, her eyes lighting up as she recognized the necklace she had picked out months ago. "Thank you so much, I love it!" she said, giving me a big hug. I was so happy that Sally liked the gift I chose to commemorate her graduation. She'll be off to college in the fall, and this necklace will remind her of everyone back home rooting for her.
