When Clara told me about an artist retreat in the countryside she was attending for work, I got an idea. For weeks I secretly arranged things with the retreat hosts, turning one of their picturesque gardens into a magical space. On the last night, I led a blindfolded Clara there. As her sight returned, she gasped at the scene - fairy lights twinkled amongst the trees and roses covered arches. Kneeling before her with a bouquet, I asked “Mi amor, will you marry me?”. Tears welled in her shining eyes as she smiled the biggest “Si!” Through happy sobs we embraced, her lips tasting of salt. Later, when she showed coworkers the ring I slipped on her finger, they all said it was the most romantic proposal they’d ever heard of. She still teases me for “one-upping” her planned event with my over-the-top gesture of love.
