40 years ago, I was in my last year studying law at Boston University.
40 years ago, I was in my last year studying law at Boston University. One day, while working at the campus coffee shop, I met Marie, who was also studying law. At the time, she was struggling with a term paper, her curly hair a mess. I brought her a cup of coffee I had made and joked that she should come find me when her paper was done. I didn't expect that the next day, she really did come, and we chatted the whole afternoon. From then on we often studied and talked together, spending weekends together as well. After graduating, I did an internship at a law firm in Boston, while Marie interned at Boston City Hall. We started dating officially, and after a few years I was determined to propose to her. On the day I proposed, I purposely chose the coffee shop where we had our first conversation. When the employee brought her coffee, the ring was hidden underneath the cup. She was surprised but immediately said yes! We rented a small house in the suburbs of Boston to start living together. A year later we had a simple wedding ceremony. Now we both work in Boston, and every weekend we explore this city where we met, fell in love, and have now been together for 40 years. I'm glad she didn't dislike that cup of coffee I made her all those years ago!
