From the moment I first met my fiancée Maya, I knew she was special
From the moment I first met my fiancée Maya, I knew she was special. Our mutual friend Sonia set us up on a blind date, saying we had much in common. When Maya and I met for coffee, the hours flew by as we discussed our love of travel, art and photography. Her warm smile and passion for life drew me in. After that first evening together, we were inseparable. Our one-year anniversary of that fateful first date was the perfect moment for me to propose. I wanted to celebrate the start of our relationship with friends and family. Planning the proposal was no easy feat, keeping it a secret from the ever-observant Maya. I had the engagement ring concealed for weeks. On the big day, I told Maya I had arranged a romantic weekend getaway to Old Town Alexandria. Little did she know, I had an elaborate surprise engagement party in the works too. After a picturesque dinner, we strolled along the waterfront just as we had one year prior. I brought Maya to our favorite restaurant, where I had coordinated a special video to play upon our arrival. As Maya watched, enraptured, I got down on one knee beside her. With tears in her eyes, she happily accepted. We then walked hand in hand to reveal all our loved ones waiting at Maya's father's house, ready to celebrate our new chapter together. It was the perfect culmination of our whirlwind first year and everything I could have dreamed for the proposal.
