One sunny Saturday in October, Daniel asked if I wanted to go on a hike with him. He packed us a picnic lunch and we drove out to Forest Park. We walked for a few miles on the trails until we came upon a beautiful clearing by a small lake. Colorful fall leaves drifted on the calm water as sunlight filtered through the trees. Daniel laid out our meal while I took in the peaceful scene. After we ate, he took both of my hands in his and looked deep into my eyes. I could see his nerves but also his love. When he got down on one knee I started to tear up, already knowing what was coming. Daniel professed his devotion and asked me to be his wife. Overcome with joy, I enthusiastically said yes. As he slipped the ring on my finger, I felt deeply grateful to be celebrating our engagement in this idyllic forest setting.
