A few days later, I texted Jessica to meet up for coffee. Our first date lasted for hours, finding we had even more in common than our friends knew. This year, Jess' birthday fell on a perfect sunny Saturday. I made reservations at her favorite rooftop bistro. When the cake arrived adorned with candles, I asked the waiter to help me out. They signaled the musicians to start playing our song before disappearing into the kitchen. As Jess closed her eyes to make a wish, they reemerged with a tray - on it a cupcake topped with a glistening ring nestled in frosting. Gasping through her surprised laughter and happy tears, Jess accepted my proposal joyfully. Our future shone bright after three amazing years as partners. I can't wait to walk through life as husband and wife.
