When Wally first entered into my bookstore cafe 21 years ago, clipboard in hand doing a market research study for his company, I was immediately attracted by his charming smile and passion for literature. Tall and slender, he cut a handsome figure browsing the shelves. Once I had a chance to chat with him, I was captivated further. We talked for hours it seemed, finding we shared a love of the same classic novels, poems and philosophers. Our conversation flowed effortlessly as we dove deep into discussions of our favorite authors and what we took from their works. After that day, Wally often came back to visit me at the store. Before I knew it, he had asked me on a date to the new art exhibit in town. Dinner and walks in the park followed, and I fell hopelessly in love with his kind soul and sharp wit. One evening one year later while browsing in the poetry aisle together, he suddenly dropped to one knee, ring in hand, as he asked me to be his wife. Now two decades have passed in a flash. Our girls are off attending their first years of college, and Wally and I treasure our quiet dates in the afternoon. I couldn't ask for a better partner.
