How to Customize Your Engagement Ring and Wedding Ring at SHE SAID YES
Customizing an engagement or wedding ring means you decide what matters most. Pick your gemstone, metal, and carat weight. We offer two tailored ways to do this: a semi-custom route where you personalize an existing setting on the product page, or a full custom service where our master jewelers build from your own idea. Here is how to create a piece that fits your style and budget.

Option 1: Personalizing an Existing Style (Semi-Custom)
Step 1: Find Your Inspiration Point
Traditional custom design often forces you into a rigid sequence: choose a loose center stone first, then find a mounting to hold it. We believe your design journey should start wherever your inspiration lies. If you already know the style, gemstone, metal, or stone size you want, you can use our navigation to filter our collections based on what matters most to you:
- Shop by style and silhouette: This is ideal if you already have a clear picture of your ring. Whether you love a clean solitaire, a sparkling halo, an intricate vintage ring, or a stackable wedding band, you can start directly with the look you want.
- Shop by gemstone and color: This works best if you want your ring centered around a specific stone or hue. You can choose from lab-grown diamonds, moissanite, or vibrant colored gems like sapphire blue, emerald green, fancy pink, and onyx black.
- Shop by metal and carat weight: If you have a firm budget or metal preference, this is the best place to begin. It lets you narrow down designs by precious metals like 10k, 14k, 18k gold or platinum, as well as your target stone size.
Step 2: Tailor the Details on the Product Page
Once you choose a ring design, you will see the detailed customization options right on the product page. These let you personalize your ring before adding it to your cart.Choose stone shape and carat weight (When available):On select designs, you will see options to choose your primary stone shape, such as oval, pear, radiant, or emerald, along with your preferred carat size. If these options do not appear, it means our designers have already paired that setting with its ideal stone shape to ensure optimal visual balance.Select your metal and purity:You can easily customize the metal color and purity for your setting. We offer white gold, yellow gold, rose gold, and premium platinum. With options ranging from 10k to 18k solid gold, you can balance your target budget, desired hue, and everyday durability.Customize individual gemstones (Select your stone):Every single engagement ring and wedding band in our collection allows you to customize the gemstones. Whether the setting has a single stone or multiple accent gems, you can use the "Select your stone" feature to choose distinct gem types or colors for Stone 1, Stone 2, Stone 3, and beyond.Specify ring size and engraving:Finish your piece by choosing your exact finger size. You can also add a custom laser engraving inside the ring band, such as a special date, a name, or initials, to give your ring a personal touch.
Step 3: Test the Fit at Home Before Committing
Ordering fine jewelry online is a meaningful investment, and you want to be completely sure about your choice. Whether you are deciding between different ring styles, comparing main stone shapes, or seeing how a wedding band stacks with your unique engagement ring, seeing a design in person makes all the difference. To give you total peace of mind, we offer a dedicated Try-at-Home program for our semi-custom collection.
We ship physical replica rings directly to your door so you can experience the design in person. This lets you try on different ring silhouettes, evaluate how various metal tones look against your skin, and check the profile height of your setting in natural daily light. You can also comfortably test your favorite customized combinations at your own pace before placing your final order.

Option 2: Designing from Scratch (Full Bespoke Customization)
Step 1: Request a Complimentary Quote
Submit your design concept and any reference photos or rough drawings through our quote request page. Our team reviews your structural requirements and material preferences to provide a transparent, all-inclusive quote.
Step 2: Initial Hand-Painted Sketch
Once we align on your design direction, our experienced jewelry designers will translate your ideas into an initial hand-painted sketch to establish the basic silhouette and proportions.
Step 3: Refined Artwork
To begin the refined hand-painting stage, a $100 deposit is required. We will stay in close communication with you to adjust colors and fine-tune delicate design elements until every detail matches your expectations.
Step 4: Multi-Angle 3D Preview
After you finalize the visual concept, your order will be placed. Our team will then craft a detailed 3D model showcasing your ring from multiple angles. You will receive images of the 3D model for your approval before proceeding further.
Step 5: Crafting, QA & Delivery
Once you approve the 3D model, your jewelry enters production. Our quality assurance team carefully inspects every detail of the finished piece before placing it in our signature packaging. We then ship your ring directly and securely to your door.

FAQs
What is the difference between semi-custom and full custom rings?
Semi-custom lets you customize gemstone types, colors, carat weights, and metal options on existing catalog designs. Full custom builds a completely original ring from your sketches or photos through a 5-step design process.
Can I choose different gemstone colors for a multi-stone wedding band?
Yes. Every multi-stone ring features individual "Select your stone" options on the product page. You can assign distinct gemstone types or colors to each individual stone slot across the band.
How does the Try at Home program work for ring customization?
We ship physical replica rings to your home so you can try the fit, metal tones, custom combinations, and ring stacking in person. Once you confirm your preferred combination, you can place your customized order online with total confidence.
How long does a fully custom ring take from start to finish?
Typically, 3 to 4 weeks. The timeline depends mostly on the complexity of the design and how quickly you approve the 3D renderings. Simple modifications to our semi-custom rings often ship much faster.
Does a custom ring cost significantly more than a semi-custom one?
Not necessarily. Because we work with you on stone selection and metal choices, we can tailor the design to fit your budget. You pay for the materials and labor, without the traditional retail markup.
How much does a custom engagement ring cost?
The cost of a custom engagement ring depends on the gemstone, metal, carat weight, and design complexity. At She Said Yes, full custom designs start at $500.
